The Penn Israel Regatta - Ivy League Yacht Race - 100 crew sailing on 8 boats consumed 24 bottles of Champagne while vying for 1 Trophy. The Penn crew co-skippered by a Nerosurgeon and solar energy specialists brought the Penn Yacht across the final buoy just before sun-set.

Penn event Co-Chair Carmel Gerber said after the race: "The other boats should have heeded Penn's esteemed founder Benjamin Franklin's warning in competing against the Red and the Blue: Large Vessels can venture more; but small boats should stay near shore"
Irene Schwarz (Penn Class of 1954) was the ceremonial skipper of the Observer Boat which was manned by visitors from abroad attending the Presidents Conference and US Embassy staff. After the race the crews and other Ivy Israel Alumni meet for an Ivy Israel Dinner at the Yacht Club in the Herzelia Marina.
